USANKF Nationals

A few of our students had an absolutely great time at the United States Karate Federation National Competition on 7/14 & 7/15 2005.

Allie Ammons, Kara Ammons, Lin Dubuke and Kelley Penn competed in Kata & Kumite. Our guys truly made their instructor proud by participating with all their hearts and truly excellent determination. Most importantly everyone who participated and watched had a lot of fun. I saw the best team work ever exhibited by our clubs top ranked students!!!

Remember guys ISKF Nationals are just around the corner :)

We are Going To New Orleans In November.

Look out next year, USANKF we are going to Fort Lauderdale!

Thanks a bunch guys for giving back to the club, you made us all proud!!

-Instructor Ammons

Masters Camp

Attending Masters Camp, I realized what a great organization the ISKF truly is! I met exceptional Martial Artists from around the world and worked with karate masters who exhibited exceptional karate-do and gave me insight to the true nature of the Shotokan Karate-Do we study.. The most important thing that I learned during the class was the Dojo-kun and Niju-junare to be used in everyday life, we must practice and train each day and remember that your home is also your Dojo! We should strive for "Perfection of Character" in all that we do in our everyday life.

-Instructor Ammons.

DOJO Kun

SEEK PERFECTION OF CHARACTER!
BE FAITHFUL!
ENDEAVOR!
RESPECT OTHERS!
REFRAIN FROM VIOLENT BEHAVIOR!

NIJU KUN

  1. Karate is not only dojo training.
  2. Don't forget that Karate begins with a bow and ends with a bow.
  3. In Karate, never attack first.
  4. One who practices Karate must follow the way of justice
  5. First you must know yourself. Then you can know others.
  6. Spiritual development is paramount; technical skills are merely means to the end.
  7. You must release your mind
  8. Misfortune comes out of laziness.
  9. Karate is a lifelong training.
  10. Put Karate into everything you do.
  11. Karate is like hot water. If you do not give heat constantly it will again become cold.
  12. Do not think you have to win. Think that you do not have to lose.
  13. Victory depends on your ability to tell vulnerable points from invulnerable ones.
  14. Move according to your opponent.
  15. Consider your opponent's hands and legs as you would sharp swords.
  16. When you leave home, think that millions of opponents are waiting for you.
  17. Ready position for beginners and natural position for advanced students.
  18. Kata is one thing. Engaging in a real fight is another.
  19. Do not forget (1)strength and weakness of power, (2)expansion and contraction of the body, (3)slowness and speed of techniques.
  20. Devise at all times.

Kara Ammons - Kata Gold
Lauren Dubuke - Kata Gold, Kumite Gold
Kelley Penn - Kata Silver, Kumite Silver
Travis Russell - Kata 5th, Kumite Copper
Daniel Shuey - Kata Copper, Kumite Copper

Gold = 1st Place
Silver = 2nd Place
Bronze = 3rd Place
Copper = 4th Place

All of these competitors qualified for USANKF National Competition. http://www.usankf.com/  The Nationals are held this year in Charlotte, NC on July 14th thru 16th.

This was our very first competition of this type, and we are extremely proud of all of our competitors!!  Due to this being an "experimental learning experience," we only allowed a few of our students to attend.  Next year all members of Blue Ridge Karate Club are allowed to participate, if they choose to do so. Our club is founded on one principle:  all of our students are "stars!"  Although we are proud of the accomplishments of the above students, we are proud of all of our students.  As our clubs expand to 4 counties and 8 locations, we will continue to expand our learning horizons and improve our club.

Thank you, again, for this year's hard work and dedication on this year's tournament and fund raising, for this enabled us to participate in this year's Regional Qualifiers.

A Special "Thank You"  goes to Shihan Carl Wilcox and his students at the Center for Martial Arts in Asheville, NC. The Wilcox group has been a great friend and mentor in Budo. Our friends in Asheville have helped and encouraged us to participate in the USANKF qualifiers. They have instructed our students and instructors on how to better understand and compete in the USANKF system. .
